Considering Organ Donation

The use of organs donated following brain death from cardiac arrest is equivalent to those donated following other etiologies of brain death. The 2015 AHA guidelines indicate that patients who attain ROSC but have subsequent brain death should be assessed for organ donation. Additionally, cardiac arrest patients who never achieve ROSC may be candidates for organ donation if possible. It is useful to consult the ethics committee and follow protocols within the hospital.
