Typically, the stable patient should be monitored at least 6 hours following the injury if they have normal vitals, EKG, cardiac monitoring, and cardia biomarker analysis. It is also reasonable to monitor for 24 hours before discharge. There will still be many patients with long-term cardiac, neurologic, or physical long-term complaints.
