Risk Factors for Stroke

Most patients will have a risk factor. Some of these can be managed (i.e., hypertension and diabetes), treated (i.e., antiplatelets, endarterectomy) or eliminated (cigarette use). A healthy lifestyle, including physical activity, can help reduce stroke risk. Research shows that participation in high levels of physical activity decreases the risk of all types of stroke. Other major risks can be managed.
