The main focus of the AHA guidelines for CPR is to provide early uninterrupted CPR. Consequently, there is less emphasis on placing an advanced airway, as this can cause an interruption in chest compressions. It is vital to evaluate the individual patient and the situation to determine if an advanced airway is worth the interruption it will cause in the provision of chest compressions and defibrillation. It is reasonable to postpone advanced airway placement until other less invasive therapies fail or the patient enters ROSC.
