Supporting the Healthcare Staff After a Perinatal Death

It may be a traumatizing experience for healthcare staff to witness the death of a newborn. Staff may think that it is their fault, leading to depression, anger, or guilt. After a resuscitation that ends with a baby’s death, a debriefing should take place. At the debriefing, the team can review the course of the resuscitation efforts. Team members can discuss their feelings openly and support each other.
