If a newly born requires supplemental oxygen, CPAP, or positive pressure ventilation (PPV) during the resuscitation, frequent evaluation is necessary. These babies must be transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
These neonates may require continued respiratory support, including supplemental oxygen, CPAP, and mechanical ventilation. Continuous cardiac monitoring may be necessary. The length of stay in the NICU depends on the baby’s condition, gestational age, progress toward normal transition, and the management of present risk factors.
