The PALS provider must perform a rapid, focused evaluation of the patient’s respiratory status and identify its type and severity. This evaluation encourages immediate intervention to stabilize oxygenation and ventilation.
Once the patient is stabilized, the PALS provider concentrates on the diagnosis and cause of the respiratory problem so the team can address the patient’s definitive treatment. The evaluate-identify-intervene sequence previously discussed is continuously implemented.
