Compensatory Pause

Some PVCs travel in a retrograde direction to the atria. Half of these impulses discharge the SA node. If the impulse from the PVC does not interfere with the impulse from the SA node, then the next delivered sinus impulse occurs within a normal interval. This cycle is referred to as fully compensatory. 

If the sinus impulse occurs ahead of the normal interval, then this is known as a partial compensatory cycle.
