Atrioventricular Junctional Rhythms – Supraventricular Tachycardia

“Supra” means above, and thus the term “supraventricular” refers to any rhythm occurring above the ventricles. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a tachycardic rhythm caused by a focus anywhere above the ventricles, including the AV node, the atria, or the SA node (see Figure 5.3). 

Supraventricular tachycardia is a term that is often used to describe regular tachyarrhythmias that cannot be identified because the P waves cannot be seen. 

Characteristics of Supraventricular Tachycardia Arrhythmias 

  1. Regular rhythm
  2. Rate 150–250 bpm
  3. Atrial or junctional in origin
  4. No visible P waves
