The purpose of the bloodborne pathogen course is to introduce the healthcare responder to the common infectious diseases they may deal with in every emergency, their infectivity, and the necessary means to protect oneself when tending to a patient. 

This course outlines a four-step process for protection from bloodborne pathogen infections:

  • Protection from exposure
  • Actions to take if an exposure happens
  • Environmental cleaning following a blood or body fluid spill
  • Reporting an exposure to bloodborne pathogens
