At the end of this chapter, the first aid provider will:

• Describe the initial steps in responding to an emergency.
• Understand the use of Standard Precautions in an emergency.
• Perform proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infection.
• Perform a quick patient assessment.
• Understand the steps for CPR.

We understand that some of our students take the course as a requirement for a specific job that is not healthcare-related. Therefore, we have designed the curriculum for professionals and non-professionals alike, leaving out or defining technical terms but retaining the essential details on first aid intervention.

In this course, the student is the First Responder, the one in the field tending to the patient.

Community Member First Responder

Separate chapters in this guide define common emergencies that require first aid. This course will teach the most common first aid interventions for each emergency. At the end of each chapter, there will be a short quiz to test the knowledge gained. At the end of the course, there will be an opportunity to take a final exam.
