  • The Ventilation-Perfusion Quotient (V/Q) scan measures how well the lungs match ventilation and perfusion. It’s the percent of the air that diffuses into the bloodstream, and the standard measurement is 0.9%.
  • The lungs have three zones. Zone 1 is the apex above the heart, zone 2 is the torso, and zone 3 is the base. In zone 1, ventilation is greater than perfusion. In zone 2, they are equal. In zone 3, perfusion is greater than ventilation.
