Understanding Air in an IV Line Video

  • To reduce the risk of getting air in an IV line, kink off the tubing, spike the bag, and gently pull in some fluid to the drip chamber. Then, release the tubing.
  • When using a pressure bag, remove all the air from the bag and the tubing.
  • Once all air is out of the bag, it’s safe to use a pressure infuser.
