  • This video reviews the three steps of ABG interpretation.
  • First, look at the pH to determine if the patient is acidotic or alkalotic.
  • Second, look at the CO2 value and determine if the result is primarily respiratory or metabolic.
  • Finally, for metabolic acidosis, look at the ion gap to determine if the acidosis is non-gap or gap acidosis.
  • Acute and chronic conditions determine compensation.
