- Stroke is an interruption of blood to the brain caused by blood vessel blockage or rupture.
- There are two types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic.
- Ischemic stroke is caused by a blocked blood vessel and hemorrhagic is caused by a burst blood vessel.
- Symptoms for both types of stroke are similar.
- Symptoms include weakness on one side of the body, difficulty speaking, and severe headache.
- Risk factors include hypertension.
- The quickest way to diagnose hemorrhagic stroke is with a CT scan. It is not good at visualizing ischemic blockages.
- Ischemic stroke is more common.
