  • Clinicians should be able to readily recognize the four rhythms associated with cardiac arrest: ventricular fibrillation, pulseless ventricular tachycardia, pulseless electrical activity, and asystole.
  • Providers should minimize Interruptions in CPR when treating any of the cardiac arrest rhythms.
  • Electrical therapy given as early as possible in shockable rhythms increases the rate of successful return of spontaneous circulation.
  • Non-shockable rhythms are treated with CPR and the drug epinephrine, which improves blood flow to the heart and brain.
