- The pulmonary system is a low-pressure system.
- The first set of pulmonary arteries are the elastic arteries, about 0.5-1 mm thick.
- The second group of arteries are the muscular pulmonary arteries, about 0.-.5 mm thick and made up of smooth muscle cells with a little bit of elastin.
- The third type of arteries are the arterioles. They have a significant tunica media and no smooth muscle.
- The fourth type is pulmonary capillaries, around 10 microns in size. They consist of an epithelial layer and a thin basement membrane.
