How to Use an AED for Children Video

When using an AED on an unresponsive child, the provider should follow these steps:
- Turn on the AED and follow the instructions.
- Expose the chest.
- Attach the AED pads. If a child weighs less than 55 pounds, use pediatric pads.
- If using adult-sized pads, one can be used on the chest and the other on the back.
- Have the AED machine analyze the rhythm.
- Have everyone stand clear, and if recommended, deliver the shock.
- Continue CPR if the child is still unresponsive.
