- This video explains what to do if you are trying to help someone who fell through the ice and you also fell in.
- Utilize the 1-10-1 rule.
- When you first fall in, you go through the cold shock phase. You will begin gasping and not be able to hold your breath. You must get your breathing under control.
- Phase two is swimming failure. You have 10 minutes to get out of the water before your body begins to fail.
- Phase three is hypothermia. You must get out of the water before phase three sets in.
- Phase four is post-rescue collapse.
