- Peripheral edema is fluid accumulation in the tissues of the systemic vasculature.
- It is most commonly seen in the legs.
- If there is too much fluid passing through the tissue, the elevated pressure pushes fluid out of the vessels.
- A common cause is right-side heart failure. Liver failure, inflammation, and kidney disease are other common reasons for peripheral edema.
