Highlights

“I strongly believe that educating students and peers is one of the most critical strategies for ensuring the improvement of the healthcare system and, ultimately, the outcomes of the patients we serve.”

– Eileen Johnson, RN, MSN, CPHQ

Experience

Before retirement from full-time nursing practice, Eileen Johnson, RN, MSN, CPHQ, worked in many nursing sectors across the healthcare continuum of care. She spent several years practicing in emergency nursing in major medical centers, caring for all ages and levels of patient acuity.

In 1998, Eileen began working with healthcare EMR systems as a business analyst at HCA The Healthcare Company. In that capacity, she started a long career working with quality and process improvement as the team’s lead analyst, developing the quality review and reporting systems for the HCA system. She also created the first core measures system used by HCA as one of the first recognized vendors for The Joint Commission Core Measures initiative.

In 2007, Eileen left HCA to work as a Senior Analyst for a nation-wide hospitalist company. There, she continued to hone her skills in project management and business analysis. In this role, she developed end-user documentation and training for a greenfield company data warehouse and reporting system. Eileen became a Quality Expert and was the lead in the development of the Quality Enhancement Program. She led the evolution and progression of the advanced data architecture and reporting system via the definition of business rules and user interface reporting.

In 2013, Eileen left the hospitalist company to become the Senior Director of Quality and Data at a large not-for-profit hospice company. In this role, she supported the executive and operations teams to optimize information systems and data for resource usage to provide exceptional patient care based on the best evidence. Eileen was also responsible for designing tools for collecting, packaging, and submitting mandatory quality data to CMS.

Since her retirement in 2018, Eileen has worked as a self-employed consultant in healthcare. She joined ACLS Certification Association in 2013 as a writer, editor, and member of the Medical Review Board.
