ACLS/BLS Preparation

Key Learning Points

Heart Anatomy

Compare Ventricles Page 4

  • Because the left ventricle needs to pump blood throughout the body, the muscle mass is much greater than the right ventricle.
  • The larger left ventricle(a.) will overshadow the right ventricular(b.) ECG wave

Coronary Arteries Page 5

  • The two main divisions from coronary arteries are the right and left coronary arteries.
  • The right coronary artery(a) feeds the right atrium, right ventricle and inferior portions of the heart.
  • The left main coronary artery(b) feeds the anterior descending and circumflex coronary arteries.
  • The left anterior descending coronary(c), or LAD, supplies the anterior portion of the left ventricle and most of the interventricular septum.
  • The circumflex coronary artery(d) supplies the left atrium, lateral portion of the left ventricle.
